Cocktails with Cooper’s Craft

Summer is right around the corner, and in Miami it feels like it has already arrived.  The perfect pairing to the heat and humidity is a cool, refreshing cocktail.  This is exactly what we got at this weekend’s event featuring Coopers Craft very own barrel-aged bourbon.  Their Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey is aged in barrels made by the cooper’s and finished with a beech and birch charcoal finishing process. The barrels and the finishing give the bourbon a smooth taste, and it’s perfect for mixing.  Upon entering the event we got two keys to claim drinks throughout the event.  We also got to learn about the bourbon and how it’s made and aged, and then we got to learn how to mix our own drink as well.

Cooper’s Cup

The Cooper’s Cup reminded me a little bit of a Moscow Mule, and it’s perfect to serve at a Summer party.  This cocktail is 2 parts Cooper’s Craft Bourbon, 1 part lime juice, add ginger beer, poured over ice and it was served in the cutest Cooper’s Craft tin cup.  The bartender added a mint sprig for garnish.  This drink was the perfect start to the event.

I also got the opportunity to meet some awesome women who are all a part of the South Florida Blogger community, and I also met the cutest Scottish Terrier named Hamilton Barkley.  Everyone was quite taken with Hamilton.  Lots of great conversations, drinks, laughs and learning all about bourbon made for a great Saturday afternoon at House Kitchen & Bar.  I also feel in love with this location.  House has the perfect little outside seating area with beautiful striped benches and right in the middle of Coral Gables “The City Beautiful”.

After Barrel

My favorite part of the whole afternoon was getting to learn how to mix my own cocktail using Cooper’s Craft Bourbon.  The bartender started off with fresh blueberries and strawberries mixed with Peach Schnapps.  Then we learned to muddle all the juices from the berries and the schnapps to create the perfect base for our After Barrel cocktail. After the muddling we added ice and bourbon and got to shaking.  Voila! I can now create my own cocktails whenever I need a Summer refresher.
