Trying New Things: Soft Silhouettes + Sporty Knit Jumpsuit

Like many things in life, you start out with a vision or a plan for how you want things to go and some days go great and others you just can’t get everything done.  This week has been such a challenge for me, it’s been filled with lots of ups and downs.  Trying to balance a few roles at work, family, side projects and such can all catch up to you.  Trying to keep myself on a schedule and writing everything down helps keep me on track and keep me going.  The same goes for my designing as well. At times, when I start a piece I have a clear direction of where I want it to go.  I always start designing with a plan, but sometimes it ends up completely different. This knit jumpsuit is the perfect example of that.

When I start working with a fabric, I usually know exactly what I want to do with it, but this one kept changing as I went along.  Knit fabrics can be a challenge depending on the consistency, but they are fun to work with.  This burgundy knit had a different texture, almost like a distressed knit, and I loved it.  Despite the texture, it has a soft feel to it and I wanted to pair it with a sporty windbreaker fabric for the details in the hood and sleeves. The sporty details were something that developed later in the design.

Originally, I wanted to do the whole jumpsuit in this knit fabric but I wanted to add some sporty elements to mix it up.  These sleeves have the perfect volume and give the jumpsuit a unique look.  It’s definitely a different look than I’m used to, because of the length of the bottoms and the poof sleeves.  I like that it’s different from what I normally do.  This piece is something that I didn’t think I would like, but in the end when I started styling it, the look grew on me.  It also challenged me to try something new, which is one of my goals for this year.

Recently, I learned, not to expect everything to be perfect, to learn from my mistakes and not to be afraid to try new things.  It’s good to challenge yourself to do things you wouldn’t normally do.  Even if things don’t turn out the way you want.

I paired this look with a cool purse belt from the Who What Wear collection at Target, it has a chic element to it and it’s so easy to wear.  I styled my hair in braids, which is one of my current favorite hairstyles.  It’s so easy and is perfect for any high neck or hooded piece.  I tied in some gold elements in the earrings and zipper to complete the look and finished it off with a cool pair of leather booties.  I love shoes that have unique details on them, and these tortoiseshell heels are perfect.  I hope you will all love this look, and fall in love with it like I did.  Wishing you  all a happy weekend.  XOXO
